My passion for art began when I was just five years old. In kindergarten, whenever it was time to draw, color, or create, I was completely immersed in the process. My teacher noticed my natural artistic ability and saw that I was more advanced than majority of my peers. My teacher informed my parents and suggested that I should test into The Gifted Arts Program to further develop my skills. Once I passed I was given a schedule that allowed me to leave my regular class to attend an art class that was solely for the kids who qualified as Gifted Art students. From there my love for art deepened.
As I grew older, my artistic style and medium preferences began to take shape around my high school years. I always drew in graphite and ink, but it wasn’t until my junior art class that I learned that paint, specifically acrylic, was going to be the medium I focused on the most.
My teacher instructed the class to create an art piece and I had the liberty to use any medium and draw whatever I desired. I chose to use acrylic, despite never working with it, on top of that I chose to paint a portrait, something I also never did before. I challenged myself and enjoyed the process. Since then I worked on getting better at the skill.
At one point, I found myself painting extraterrestrial beings, but one day I gazed at my artwork and asked myself “What does this mean ?’’ I realized my work felt empty, like it was lacking purpose. From that moment I vowed to only create art with meaning.
As a believer in Christ, I recognized that my ability to create is a gift from Him so I decided to dedicate my work to Him.
My work is about my spiritual journey with Jesus I am by no means perfect nor am I stating that through my work. My artwork is both a reminder to myself to stay on track and an expression of my struggles and triumphs I face as a follower of Christ. If along the way my work inspires others to self reflect or think about life through a different lens then I am honored to do so.
My artwork is for anyone no matter their beliefs and backgrounds. Everyone has the freewill to believe in who ever or whatever and my artwork will never challenge that.
Every color and its placement, and every element in my work carries meaning. My titles provide insight for each piece so my viewers never have to question the message behind my work. I take pride in being intentional with my work, and I hope my audience can appreciate that as they engage with it.
Thank You & Enjoy.
